The French Revolution was a radical period of time from 1789-1799, in which the monarchy government was overthrown by the citizens of France. The causes of this was the debt crisis in France that led to the 3rd Estate paying 98% of the taxes in France, the food scarcity which led to higher prices of bread, and Louis XVI trying to tax the nobles more, but couldn't considering they had grown to be too powerful in the last 200 years. The people of France rose up and overthrew the monarchy government in spirit of the enlightenment ideas: liberty, citizenship and inalienable rights. Louis XVI attempted to flee the country after being overthrown, but was captured and killed by the haunting guillotine.
Louis XVI
Louis XIV, also known as "Louis the Great" was a French king through a monarchy government. However, his people did not agree with the monarchy system. His people also didn't agree with many other things like his unfair, greedy, and controlling environment that he created when ruling in France. For example, the way Louis XIV treated the 3rd Estate prior to the March of Versailles was cruel. As the price of wheat and bread rapidly rose, while there were starting to be food shortages, Louis XVI was aware, but chose to do nothing about it. This caused the March on Versailles in October, 1789, which was when the women of the 3rd Estate took to arms and rallied into the Versailles (king and queen's palace) on an expedition to kill the queen. Louis XVI was eventually overthrown by his people because he refused to alter his methods of the way he ruled over his people. These methods didn't include what the citizens in France believed were vital to society, the Enlightenment ideas including: liberty, citizenship and inalienable rights. After being overthrown and being disliked by almost every citizen in France, Louis XIV attempted to escape France, but was captured and beheaded by the vicious blade of the guillotine.

Taxation in During French Revolution
There was a lot of corruption during the French Revolution, but one of the main things that caused this corruption was that Louis XVI was too weak in forcing the 2nd Estate pay more taxes. In result of this, 98% of the taxes in France were being payed by the 3rd class, while the Nobles were only paying 2%. This ultimately caused most of the peasants in the 3rd class to be with little to no money considering they would earn their small proportion of money from doing hard labor and then almost all of it would be taken away from taxes. It wasn't so much a matter of becoming rich, but it was a matter of staying alive. The middle class in the 3rd Estate were also taking their toll of troubles while rapidly getting poorer from the unfair taxation. The Third Estate believed that without themselves as a whole, the people would not have been able to overtake Louis XVI, yet they got nothing in return, but taxation.
