The National Democratic Party of Egypt is a authoritarian party in a multi-party system in Egypt. This is the most powerful party to emerge from the Arab Socialist Union, serving as it's successor after the end of the ASU sole ruling of Egypt in 1962. This remained the countries main political party until the overthrow of President Hosni Mubarak in 2011. The National Democratic Party was forced to dissolve once proved guilty of election fraud and corruption which is estimated to result into as much as $70 million. It's members are able to still participate in elections, even as candidates if the opportunity potentially. Before it's downfall, the National Democratic Party controlled the political scene of Egypt. Unlike it's name, the National Democratic Party of Egypt acts as a Socialist group, in fact it was called the Arab Socialist Organization of Egypt for a long time just before the overthrow of President Hosni Mubarak in 2011.
Hosni Mubarek
The president of this party was Hosni Mubarek who has been wraped up in many controversies leading towards the Egyptian Revolution. Mubarek is on trial for many diffrent counts including premeditated murders of peaceful protestors. After being control for 30 years he stepped down on Febuary 1 via a television brodcast.
